The Mount Saint Vincent University Students’ Union (MSVUSU) is a non-for-profit organization committed to fostering a student experience that can be described as fulfilling, memorable and fun. It is organization made up of elected and hired students and staff who work for, and with Mount students. The purpose of the MSVUSU is to provide effective representation, advocacy, governance, services, and student life to the students of MSVU.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Student Union President, the Strategic Operations Manager is responsible for management of general operation of the organization, and providing support to the President, in keeping with the organization’s Constitution, Bylaws and Policies. The role supports the President in development and implementation of the strategic plan and monitoring the progress. This position is also responsible for the human resource management, orientation of new members and ensuring the effective management of financial resources by monitoring all revenues, expenditures and investments.

Who You Are

As an ideal candidate, you will have completed your undergraduate degree in business or related field, hold or willing to obtain training in project management, hold or willing to obtain Tri council ethics certification.  You have three to five years of working experience in management role with demonstrated competency in financial management; experience working with a student movement is preferred.

You demonstrate a high degree of cultural competence, and an understanding of the impact of personal behaviour in creating an inclusive and respectful workplace. You demonstrate human resource leadership and are viewed by employees as competent and caring. You coach direct reports while not assuming their accountabilities. You respond respectfully and effectively to all people, regardless of the similarities and differences.

You are result driven at the same time focused on serving your client, the students, dedicated to meeting their expectations and requirements. With a student-centric focus, you have critical thinking skills with an ability to find compromise and mutually beneficial solutions to issues.  You are respectful of others, and able to develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with others inside or outside of the organization.
